Tent codes under scrutiny at upcoming hearing

On the Job, Safety & Codes | April 19, 2016 | By:

Proposed changes to codes governing tent installations will be discussed at the International Code Council (ICC) Group B Committee Action Hearing in Louisville, Ky.

The hearing is set for April 17–27, with proposals related to tent codes most likely to be heard on April 19 and 20.

Any individual can attend and testify at this public meeting, although attendees do need to register.

Proposals may be downloaded. The proposals related to tents are numbered F298-16 through F310-16 and F409-16 through F410-16.

The Tent Rental Division of IFAI submitted four code proposals and an additional appendix proposal. Additional proposals were submitted by the California Fire Chiefs Association, the National Fire Sprinkler Association, the Fire Code Action Committee, GBH International and the National Propane Gas Association.

The ICC uses a three-year cycle to develop model codes. Tents and temporary structures fall largely under the International Fire Code (IFC). The IFC is in Group B of the code cycle, and proposed changes for Group B are being considered in 2016.

TRD encourages members to attend this meeting. Please contact Andrea Jauli, division supervisor, + 1 651 225 6944 or akjauli@ifai.com, for information and to coordinate TRD efforts.
