Ballasting study

Industry News | April 1, 2010 | By:

The TRD begins process of developing safety guidelines for ballasted tents.

Because of increasing regulatory limitations on the staking of commercial rental tents, installers need to ballast tents more and more often. The Tent Rental Division (TRD) of the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) plans to conduct a ballasting study, the objective of which is to provide rental companies information to help calculate the amount of weight needed in ballast, indicate the proper tools to use and the best procedure for achieveing the manufacturer’s specified loads. (The document will not provide the amount of weight that specific tents need to be properly secured; it will provide the appropriate method for achieving the required weight provided by the manufacturer.) An educational session on the topic, with a question-and-answer period, will be offered during IFAI Tent Expo 2011.
