Celina, an Ohio-based leader of design and manufacturing of engineered fabric products and shelters, recently developed and installed a storage solution for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in Eastern Europe.
The client, who happened to be one of the largest prime contractors to the United States government, required a storage shelter that would be wide enough to accommodate the wingspan of MQ-9 Reaper UAVs located in Eastern Europe.
The project required the re-engineering of Celina’s existing Large Area Maintenance Shelters (LAMS). LAMS manufactured by Celina have been used by the United States military for years to extend the life of aircraft and large vehicles. The structures offer UV and weather protection and provide shelter so that maintenance can be completed on the front line.
The final shelter design delivered by Celina was 83 feet wide and consisted of a lower profile than required for traditional aircraft. UAV LAMS shelters were deployed with a full-width eye-lid hanger door that can be raised
and lowered mechanically for easy entrance to the hanger to ensure proper storage and maintenance. Celina also provided the electrical, lighting, ventilation and installation of the shelter. Installation was provided through the company’s partnership with service-based company Xaraxis.
