April is distracted driving awareness month

Industry News | March 22, 2019 | By:

Just one second of distraction behind the wheel is all it takes to change a life forever. During the month of April, the U.S.-based National Safety Council leads an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving in workplaces, homes and communities.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) encourages employers and workers to make safe driving a priority. Employers absorb costs associated with these crashes whether they occur on or off the job. Workplace policies and employee education can help protect your employees, your organization and your community.

Learn the facts about the number one cause of workplace deaths and how to mitigate its risk by downloading a free Safe Driving Kit. The kit includes resources for safety and human resource professionals, including guidance for building senior management support for policies and resources to educate and influence safer driving behaviors and reduce crash risk, including:

* materials designed to share with employees year-round and reinforce company policies

* videos

* fact sheets and FAQs

* myth busters

* infographics

* posters

* survivor advocate stories

* activities to engage employees

* links to safe driving resources

* ready-made communications to educate employees

Visit the campaign website to download materials and help eliminate fatalities caused by distracted driving.
