Scientific decor on a budget

News | | By:

It’s true that creativity is born of necessity. Sometimes the need to do something exceptional on a budget can lead to some over-the-top stuff. Shereé Bochenek, creative director at Aprés Party & Tent Rental , recalls an event she did for Hormel Food Corp., the Minnesota-based manufacturer and marketer of meat products and other foods.

For this event, the client desired décor that reflected the idea of science in a basic, organic way. “We created DNA double helix with long strips of red spandex that we cut holes into to make it look like a ladder,” Bochenek explains. Once it had been stretched and curved inside the tent, they added moss topiary balls speared with bamboo poles to create DNA molecule structures that were hung from the ceiling. “This was by far one of the craziest things we’ve ever done, but the result was quite unique.”
