Kwik-Covers, the Syracuse, N.Y.-based company that supplies fitted table covers and other products for the special event market, is celebrating 20 years in business in 2020.
Owners Bernie and Joe Puglisi tell the story of the company’s origins in a press release:
“It was our niece Nicole’s birthday, and with over 25 years in the party rental business, the family asked us to bring the tent, tables and chairs for the birthday party. It was a windy day and there we were, trying to tape down a regular disposable table cover, just like we had seen our customers do countless times. Our brother Dave, who at the time worked for UPS, helped us struggle as the wind whipped up one end of the tablecloth, and then the other.
“‘You know what they should have,’ he said, as yet another plastic cover took off across the yard. ‘They should make disposable table coverings that have elastic around the edges like a bed sheet.’
“We both looked over at Dave, then looked at the table cover we were fighting with. You could almost hear the gears turning in our heads, and when we looked up, we smiled at each other. We knew we were on to something big!
