Memorable summer soirees begin with the right furniture and decor

Outdoor event design is all about making indoor and outdoor spaces blend seamlessly, according to the experts at CORT Events, the nationwide furniture, lighting and accessories rental company based in Chantilly, Va. For this summer’s parties, event designers are selecting transitional furniture and designing around bold yet classic color pallets and patterns and Mediterranean influences.

Memorable summer soirees incorporate furniture suitable for lounging, networking and socializing. CORT recommends mixing up seating with dining areas and plenty of bar tables for drinks and food plates while guests mingle.

“The worst design sin when planning an outdoor event is not having enough bar tables for guests to casually network while they eat and drink,” says Kevin Dana, executive director of marketing and product development at CORT. “It’s common sense, but so many planners skimp on the tables. That includes accent and side tables near furniture.”

Color is key when planning an outdoor event, and blue is all the rage in summer 2018. Events become sultry and seductive with deep hues of blue paired with green jungle patterns and palm accent pieces. Antiqued white and blue, along with clean lines and crisp summer linens, fashion a classic and chic look.

Use accent pieces to bring in color. Go beyond throw pillows and play up the seasonal colors with CORT’s new outdoor wire tables in green, blue and white. Vibe cube ottomans provide versatile, vibrant outdoor seating in summer hues that can be easily moved around for casual networking.

For international inspiration, go Mediterranean. Black and white with punches of color provide balance and fun against a backdrop of extravagant greenery. Go north to the French Riviera for an easy, chic feel. Mix furnishings with wood tables and benches, and don’t forget to finish with marble tabletops. Define the space with faux boxwood hedges to create more intimate, luxurious outdoor areas. Add florals to the hedges to bring in a hanging garden look that makes the space feel romantic.

The most important trend is comfort, according to CORT. Pay attention to details that will enhance the guest experience: provide bug spray, add citronella candles and offer water stations including fruit-infused water so that guests stay hydrated.
