Executing the dream wedding

Chic Event Rentals exceeds a client’s vision for a backyard wedding.

You know you’ve done well when a client tells you that she never imagined her backyard could look so great.

This was the case for Anthony Karabetyan, owner of Chic Event Rentals of Monterey, Calif., and a May backyard wedding for the client’s daughter. The client envisioned a personalized “shabby chic”-themed backyard event, and Chic Event Rentals delivered with whitewash Chiavari chairs, linens from the company’s Natural collection, Italian string lighting and paper lanterns.

Chic Event Rentals installed a 40-by-60-foot Jumbotrac™ tent with clear sides and top and a sub-floor with AstroTurf®. With no truck access to the backyard, everything had to be carried along a narrow path around the house, which extended installation and takedown by a few hours. Also, one tree with a low-hanging branch required trimming.

“We had about three months to plan this event, and it was more than enough,” Karabetyan says. “The client loved everything.”

For Chic Event Rentals, backyard parties tend to be advantageous because of the extent of inventory and services the company can provide. For this event, Chic Event Rentals also provided heating, uplighting, tables, bar, stage, dance floor, flatware, glassware and dinnerware.

“Private clients need to rent everything,” he says. “If you get the tenting portion of the project, there is a very good chance you will get any other aspect you want.”

With the potential for views of the California coastline, it’s no surprise that clear tents are popular with Chic Event clients, along with rustic-themed decor. Monterey County backyards tend to be hilly and require leveling. Load in and load out are often labor intensive because of lack of access, but that is offset by more flexible timelines for installation and takedown than those usually offered by hotels or public spaces, Karabetyan says.

“From a rewarding standpoint, there is nothing better than listening to a client’s vision and, with planning and design, executing that vision and going above and beyond to create the party of their dreams,” he says. “Usually, clients have no idea that planning an event and having it at their own house can be so much fun and look so good.”
