Teijin’s Green Carpet to roll out at the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival

Industry News | September 28, 2011 | By:

Teijin Limited has announced that for the fourth consecutive year it has produced an eco-friendly Green Carpet made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles for the ecologically minded Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), which will be held from Oct. 22-30.

The Green Carpet is made entirely of Teijin Fibers’ ECOPET® recycled polyester fiber produced from used PET bottles. A total of 1,600m x 90cm carpet material, equivalent to about 23,000 recycled half-liter PET bottles, will be used for the TIFF, including a green carpet that will replace the conventional red carpet at the opening ceremony in Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills complex.

The carpet material will also be used to produce Green Pen Cases for giveaway to customers of Toei Subway as part of a TIFF-related campaign, and to people who attend a TIFF special screening on October 25 in Sendai, one of the cities affected by the March 11 disaster.

Teijin will provide a number of other green items for the festival, including Green Ties, “Greenchief” handkerchiefs and Green Ribbons for guests, as well as jackets for festival staffers. The items are produced with eco-friendly ECO CIRCLE™ fibers, chemically recycled fibers produced from used polyester products.

Since 2008, TIFF has embraced the theme of ecology with a variety of green initiatives, including the use of Teijin’s Green Carpet. TIFF also uses green power for all screenings and official events to help reduce CO2 emissions.
