Eventstar Structures contributed to a “fashion show for the ages” celebrating the 50th anniversary of iconic fashion brand Ralph Lauren, designing and fabricating 10,000 square feet of space to blend in with the rustic aesthetic of Bethesda Terrace in New York City’s Central Park.

For its efforts, Eventstar, of Medley, Fla., was awarded the “Best in Category” designation for tent projects in the 2019 International Achievement Awards (IAA).

IAA winners were announced in October at IFAI Expo 2019 in Orlando, Fla. IFAI received 255 entries from 24 countries in 42 categories for this year’s competition.

For the Ralph Lauren project, Eventstar deployed three structures to cover the terrace’s width of 140 feet. To adapt to the terrace’s staircases, column heights were varied along the length of the structure. This design had a significant effect on the reactions required to be resisted. A combination of large steel and concrete ballasts were used to support the uplift and overturning load requirements. All ballasts were framed out and painted to hide the structural elements while also matching the rustic color requirements.

The aluminum beams, columns, purlins and other framing components were powder-coated to blend in with the aesthetic of the terrace. Clear vinyl roofing skins with off-white reinforcement strips provided guests with views of the New York City skyline and Central Park foliage. Fabric gutters installed between the central structure and the two wings prevented rain from entering the primary event space.

Eventstar overcame a challenging timeline and the stringent requirements of working in a historic portion of Central Park to create a space for the celebration that included a landmark digital installation, an epic runway show and an elegant seated dinner for more than 500 guests.

The project also received the Award of Excellence in the Private Tent Rental Category. Other tent category winners are:
