PFAS labeling law updates for Connecticut

Industry News | December 23, 2025 | By: ATA

Beginning July 1, 2026, Connecticut requires that certain types of products containing intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) be labeled. Textile-related products include apparel, carpets and rugs, fabric treatments, juvenile products, textile furnishings, and upholstered furniture.

According to the order, acceptable label phrasing includes: “‘Contains PFAS,’  ‘Made with PFAS,’  ‘Made with PFAS chemicals,’ ‘Made with intentionally added PFAS,’  ‘This product contains PFAS chemicals,’ or such other language as may be proposed by a producer or manufacturer … and approved by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.”

Effective Jan. 1

Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, outdoor apparel sold in Connecticut using PFAS needs to be labeled and any online information about it must state “Made with PFAS chemicals.” Also effective on that date, turnout gear needs to be accompanied at the time of sale by a written notice to the purchaser that it includes intentionally added PFAS and the reason why it was added.
