Film festival features eco-friendly green carpet

For the second year in a row, the Teijin Group will present the environmentally minded Tokyo International Film Festival with an eco-friendly green carpet in place of the traditional red carpet for the festival’s October 17 opening ceremony.

The fire-resistant carpet is made entirely of Teijin Fibers’ ECOPET® recycled polyester fiber made from used PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles. Half of the 1,600 meters of green carpet will be laid along Keyakizaka-dori, one of Tokyo’s most glamorous streets running through the Roppongi Hills shopping and event complex.

The complete carpet is the equivalent of approximately 23,000 half-liter PET bottles.
