Sustainable event management standards

The International Organization for Standardization is developing ISO 20121 to promote sustainable event management. To be in place by the time of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the standard will monitor venue management, supplier selection, communication and transportation from the standpoint of sustainability and will apply to all types of events.

“Among our members there are many businesses that are pioneers and set a good example for ‘green’ meetings,” says Anke Pruust, deputy managing director of the GCB German Convention Bureau e.V., which supports development of the standard. “Their commitment will be confirmed by an international standard, as this will not only give them valuable encouragement but will also allow them to benefit from the transparency enabled by the new environment standard worldwide.”
