Dramatic draping brings elegance to circus-themed event.

Circuses evoke all kinds of emotions—thrills, laughter, amusement, delight. But they usually aren’t associated with glamour. Elias Events of Houston, Texas, took on the challenge of creating an evening of circus elegance, starting with a bold color scheme of red, white and black, with subtle hints of silver.

With a theme of Cirque du Chevron, this February 2015 corporate event had to live up to the name, starting with being held in a tent, in true circus style. Aztec Events & Tents, also of Houston, installed a 66-by-131-foot white clearspan tent that provided the framework for the rest of the design.

To achieve a classic circus tent atmosphere with chic touches, the tent was draped in alternating pleated black and white Dacron® fabric. A chandelier composed of 17 individual red crystal chandeliers served as the room’s gorgeous anchor. Both the chandeliers and draping were provided by A Memorable Event, The Woodlands, Texas.

The 6-foot pleats were carefully stapled around tent poles and doors and on both ends of the tent, where they were manipulated to form the same angles seen down the center of the tent. Three truss structures placed for lighting were also draped with white fabric.

The tent sat on a grassy lawn covered in elevated wood flooring and topped with black turf. In the center of the space, a 20-foot band of white turf provided a strategic centerpiece of the room.

Even the cuisine got into the high-flying act. Guests selected food and drink at the buffet from a crane-style platform that moved over guests’ heads and dropped down in front of them. Cirque-style performers wowed the crowd from an entertainment platform in the middle of the buffet. The dinner seating tables were a mix of rounds and rectangles. Massive rose centerpieces, elegant place settings and gorgeous linens in sequined red, black and white completed the chic event.
