Glen Raven remembers industry leader who brought Sunbrella® brand to casual furniture market.
Allen Swers, a furniture industry leader who first championed the Sunbrella brand as a casual-furniture fabric, recently passed away at the age of 93. He began his career in textiles in New York, progressing to chief operating officer of one of the industry’s leading companies before forming his own independent sales organization in 1977, retiring in 2003 at the age of 82. He was recognized in 2006 with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Casual Furniture Retailers and the Summer and Casual Furniture Manufacturers Association.
