IFAI presents “Understanding Guidelines for the Safe Ballasting of Tents”

Industry News | August 10, 2010 | By:

Because the tent installation industry is being asked to ballast (weight) instead of stake a tent, IFAI’s Tent Rental Division will hold an hour-long Webinar titled “Understanding Guidelines for the Safe Ballasting of Tents” on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. The TRD believes it is the industry’s responsibility to develop guidelines before untrained officials and inspectors mandate methods for alternative anchoring techniques.

The Webinar will include a study providing guidelines on how to achieve the recommended weights with ballasting instead of anchoring. Recommended weights per tent leg will still be determined by the tent manufacturer.

Addressing the pros and cons of the study will be members from the IFAI Tent Rental Division Code Task Force, including:

  • Ken Keberle, Karl’s Event Rentals
  • Mike Holland, Chattanooga Tent Company

In addition to the presenters, a panel of industry representatives will be on hand, including: Joey Ruffin, Dirk Cos, Dan Nolan, Kathy Schaefer, Tom Markel and Michael Tharpe. Learn more about IFAI’s Tent Rental Division at www.tentexperts.org.
